Improved Villages and Villagers
Hey Everyong,
Giraffestock here with another blog. This one is for the Minedeas contest, and is on improving villages and villagers in minecraft.
Part #1 - More Villagers
This one is pretty simple. I think there should be more kinds of villagers in Minecraft. I dont mean more professions, like librarian or priest. I mean guards, kings, scribes, lumber workers, miners, etc. It could add a new level to the game, and would make it more fun. Depending on the village tier (scroll down to read about that), some villages would have different professions. A fort would have many guards, but not many citizens. A kingdom would have a lot of guards, citizens, scribes, and a King.
Descriptions:
Note: Each person has multiple textures, such as the current testificates.
Guards: Guard towns and attack hostile mobs. Carry swords/bows in hand.
Kings: Kings of the land, rule. Carry gold sword in hand.
Scribes: Teachers/writers, carry books which contain info. Carry books in hand.
Lumber mill workers: Work at the mill, carry wooden axe in hand. Has wood.
Miners: Carry stone pickaxe. Work at the mine. Has a few ores/stone.
Builders: Build structures. Carry stone axe in hand. Have materials.
Farmer: Carry wood/stone hoe in hand. Has wheat and farm materials.
Shepherd: Have wooden sword in hand. Move animals from place to place.
Hunter: Hunt animals. Have quiver on back and bow in hand. Has skins/meats.
Trader: Trades special items, differently then the current system.
Doctor: Has golden apples and potions (similar to priest). Holds potions.
Adventurer: Travels around with wolves/friends. Has different weapons. Tradable.
Governor: Lives in the town hall of cities. Has book in hand.
Mayor: Lives in town hall of towns. Has book in hand.
Criminal: In cell in the jail/surrounded by guards.
More to come...
Here is what the Guard could look like -

More examples soon...
Part #2 - Village Tiers
Another simple idea. There would be multiple village 'tiers'. A tier would be like a different level.
NOTE - These are going to change a lot, there just ideas.
The tiers would be -
Town - A small town, population of about 20
roughly 100x100 blocks
Large Town - A larger town, with multiple houses, farms, and wells.
roughly 200x150 blocks
City - A large city. With a townhall, townsquare, multiple fountains, and more.
roughly 800x900 blocks
'Epic' City - A city with large stone walls, many guards, and a large population of citizens.
roughly 1200x1300 blocks
Castle - A very large, magnificent structure with high-smooth stone walls, guards, citizens, and scribes.
roughly 1300x1500 blocks
Kingdom - The largest tier, with farms outside the walls, smooth stone walls, a castle, many guards and citizens, etc. Well protected and beautiful.
roughly 3000x3000 blocks Remember, a lot will be open space/small farms. It wont be a big deal.
Part 3 - Specific Building and Details
#1. Fountain - The fountain can be in many tiers. From a small water source, to a 10-block tall well of pure awesomeness.Note: More scenery/buildings may/will be around it

#2. Town Hall - A large, wooden building with many rooms and furniture. In which the governors/mayors live.
What the town hall may look like
Expect it soon.
#3. Pharmacy - Has medicine and in which the Doctor lives and works.
What the pharmacy may look like
#4. Guardhouse - A cobblestone area with a small square. Guards live there. Could be multiple ones throughout the city.

#5. Execution Square - A square with a raised platform. Used to execute criminals.

#6. Prison - Where criminals are held.
What the Prison many look like
To come...
Part 4. GUI -
This is pretty simple, a GUI would be added when you start the game to change spawn rates of
structures/NPC's. Just a nice addition
There would also be a new trade GUI for traders, a game GUI for games (to be added soon) and some more later.
What the GUI May look like
It would be more aligned.
Thanks :)
Expect more to be added soon.
Thanks

With village teirs it could work off Hamlet-Village-Town-Fort-City-Capital
Villages could see you as a criminal or a ally, villages could also some of them travel between villages (you see long roads which they may go down)
You could also have village catagorys which are in 2 sets Theme & Function
Theme is the look of it so like viking extra (millonaire has this i guess so its similar to them)
Function would adjust the villager types and buildings so you get a normal city, a military 1 a gypsy 1 (max size town) and it effects everything within it
:D
why not add towns (large villages with better quality structures)
Citys (Massive things up to 2(+1 half) biomes)
and possibly make a mod where you turn off a extra feature
Empires!
and empires will have a capital and a map with compass combines go'es to a extra inventory slot to veiw it with a certain button full window size! (pausing game while veiwing) and then you see map with compass also see citys and Empires,Kingdoms and other factions!
a faction monitor (iron-top,redstone-middle,gold-bottom) to veiw your faction power and a special Faction Staff! (top-Factionator (gained by starting game) middle-stick,bottom-stick)
and make within it you also have at start of world...rank you choose to be (up to lord's family)
your family name!
+your faction (randomly generated with world/your own faction)
and you have a family tree and names for your family members
SORRY FOR IDEA OVERLOAD
your "towns/cities" idea isn't new.... in fact Giraffe's post is based around enhanced multi-tier villages, towns, cities, and castles. and his idea is more advanced than your brief suggestion.
your "empires" idea, while similar to Giraffe's Kingdoms, is actually less practical. It sounds more like the design for an RPG or a Server. Adding consistent empires into the game requires making a ton of new code to minecraft, which goes beyond the scope of both Giraffe's concept and the contest.
