Hello, and welcome to my interview with Final! They are a very talented skin creator and such a kind person, and very well-known for their distinctive shading style and love of the sea. :) I hope you enjoy our interview!
My questions are in gold; their responses are in pastel blue.
1. What inspired you to start making Minecraft skins?
1. My friend Embue and I back in 2012 would have skin-offs. It was so much fun, especially when we’d finish and log onto a server and get to see the other’s design. I on and off made skins but didn’t think they were good enough to post or even wear, so I spent a lot of time admiring others
until I got the courage to post my own. In 2016, making skins was a creative outlet; I tried all sorts of art like painting, coloring, even doll customizing (did not go well, lol). I stook to skin-making because of its accessibility, community, and think it’s really cool how much variety and style can be fit into such a small ‘canvas.’
2. Do you have a persona? If so, what inspired you to create them?
2. I’m still really new to this whole persona thing, not even really sure what they are. I recently made a skin called “Coast” that is inspired by my PMC theme. One of my favorite colors is pastel blue so I was happy to make a skin revolving around that kind of palette. Perhaps I’ll make more persona-adjacent skins in the future, heh.
3. What is your favourite submission (that you have made)? Your favourite that someone else has made?
3. My favorite skin changes as my style evolves, but at the moment I think “Bell Flower” is my favorite, even if it didn’t get a lot of love. The first skin that came to mind as one of my favorites is saguaro’s “90’s Melody.” The shading? The pink? The rainbow? The blue? Chefs kiss all around. I love the simplicity of translating My Melody’s design into overalls, as well.
4. What is your favourite book/film/music genre? Do you have any favourite hobbies?
4. My music taste has been everywhere recently! I mostly listen to industrial/nu-metal, hyperpop, or just simply rock (likely remnants of my nightcore days). While I love reading, I hardly ever have time to crack open a book, and my poor college-juiced brain now exclusively craves true crime and ethnology books D: I recently started Cannibalism: A Perfectly Natural History by Bill Schutt and am slowly trucking my way through it.
To be honest, I’m really lacking in hobbies. Pretty much all my time is dedicated to college, computer stuff, or hanging out with my cats since it is unsafe to be out in public. PMC, pixel art, and video games are probably the closest I come to having hobbies. I have recently started up a "hobby" where I watch a mediocre movie and then think about it non-stop for a week until inevitably my brain turns to mush (then repeat). Uh… the movie Knives Out is good tho!
5. What is your dream job?
5. As a wise person once said, “I simply do not dream of labor.” (Maybe I'll try to be a paralegal when I graduate).
6. Do you have an inspiration (either for making skins or in real life)? If so, what do you like about them?
6. I mentioned saguaro earlier, they are definitely one of my all-time inspirations for making skins!! Back in my early days, Crescendo's art had such a huge influence on me, as well. Current skin inspirations are Aethera, Mellie, aquarine, Sophei, and… Ahhh I couldn’t possibly fit everyone’s names here!! Pretty much every skin in my favorites tab is an inspiration. :) Digital artists include par0llel, krooked.glasses, and really any artist with a fun angular design and saturated colors.
7. What is your favourite memory (either irl or from PMC)?
7. Wish I had memories from PMC, but I’ve never really made any friends on here D: This is a hyper-specific reference but there was a night on Tumblr, November 5th 2020, where every user collectively lost their minds at the bizarre string of events. It permanently changed my brain chemistry, I will never be the same. Here’s a video for context but honestly? No context can fully explain the madness that went on that night.
8. What advice would you give to a new PMC member?
8. I suppose this advice is for new and old members; the number of likes and downloads is not always reflective of the quality of your work. You can make a great skin and due to factors out of your hands, it doesn’t do well. At the end of the day, you are making art and the worth of it is based on whether you had fun and expressed your creativity within it, for yourself. Also, style can take time to develop, so just go for it, and through trial and error, you will find yours :)
9. How would you describe yourself in three words?
9. Weird, cute, feral!
