Hello, and welcome to my interview with my lovely friend Mellie! ♥ She is an extremely talented skin creator who joined the community in 2019 and quickly became one of PMC's most well-known aesthetic skin artists. x She is also one of my closest friends and a lovely and kind person to everyone in the community. :) I hope you enjoy our interview!
My questions are in pink; her responses are in pastel pink.
1. What inspired you to start making Minecraft skins?
1. You, lol cx I'd never really been interested in any kind of art before, much less digital art, and honestly wasn't all that into very many video games actually! You kept sending me pics of MC skins you'd made to ask for advice, and putting pixels together to make skins started looking like a lot of fun :D I fiddled around with it for awhile on the Skindex, I think I made about 4-5 "test" skins that had no shading and really stupid basic shading at first before I actually made an acc there lol x.x You taught me some shading and color techniques you knew; I swear my first skins were like copies of your style, rip c'x
2. How did you discover PMC?
2. Ik you'd talked about PMC before, and a lot of other people on the Skindex had accs here too, so I decided to make one myself! It took some getting used to bc there are so many more features and stuff here, but there seemed to be a lot less toxicity on PMC than Skindex, so I started being active here more often <3 I still post on Skindex, but I barely interact on there tbh bc of the number of skin thieves, toxic people, spam, etc. :/
3. Do you have a persona? If so, what inspired you to create them?
3. I do! Her name is Marina, and she's a bubbly catgirl that loves flowers, pastels, and sleeping <3 I based her a lot off of my irl personality, I'm very outgoing and excitable and tend to talk too much XD I also designed her outfit mostly out of my favorite color, pink, and tried to make it soft and comfy bc I like wearing that kind of clothing :) I love cats, so she has cat ears too!
4. Do you have a favourite submission that you've made? Your favourite that someone else has made?
4. I really don't know that I have a favorite skin I've made, tbh! If I have to choose, I think maybe this one or this one? <3 On the first one, I just really love how the hair turned out, on the second one, the colors just give me so much serotonin haha :D
I literally have no idea how I'd ever choose a favorite skin from somebody else! There's so many gorgeous ones that I just- yeah ;-; Here are a few I do like a lot, and are definitely in my top favorites: Fantasies by Oblivion, poached egg by Aesthetic, fire and ice by mcrjellyfish, and basically anything by Kawaii or Angel haha! <3
5. Who would you say has influenced or inspired you the most on PMC?
5. My biggest inspirations are Kawaii, Angel, Moon, and mcrjellyfish! I love their bright and/or pastel colors and distinctive blocky shading styles! <3 Specifically, Kawaii and Angel inspired me the most when it comes to shading and colors, especially pastels :) Kawaii also inspired me to work more with ombre and rainbow palettes! <3
6. If you could add one feature to PMC, what would it be? Would you remove any preexisting features, and if so, which one(s)?
6. Something I'd love to see on PMC is the ability to add multiple skin files to a single post! It would be great for skins that have a few alt outfits or uploading a skin series :D Something else I might really like to see is to be able to search for wallposts by words, or at the very least, be able to do that with your own wallposts! I hate having to page through hundreds of wallposts to find a certain one haha :')
One feature I'd like to see removed is the "Oops! You've given too many diamonds/favorites to ____". While I get that it's to prevent people from just spamming notifs, it's extremely irritating to have to wait like an hour to continue supporting a creator :(
7. What is a cause you especially believe in? What would you like others to know about it?
7. I'd have to say equality and representation in the LGBTQ+ community! As a part of it myself (I'm bisexual), it makes me really sad and angry when I see someone getting mistreated bc of their orientation and/or sexuality. I hate when someone gets discriminated against, like being misgendered or having their deadname used. It's disturbing to me that a lot of people are still so toxic toward us, and that's something I really want to see change in the future. People have a lot of mistaken ideas about LGBTQ+ and I feel like education about the topic is super important in bringing change <3
One thing I have to say is, please actually use someone's preferred name and pronouns. Not doing so-- especially after you've been asked to-- is so harmful and is really a form of harassment. If you aren't sure about someone's pronouns, ask them! It's always better to ask than to cause them harm and embarrass yourself. Please be considerate of others and their preferences! <3
8. What are some of your hobbies outside of PMC? What are some fandoms that you enjoy or are a part of?
8. Some of my hobbies are reading, relaxing with my cats, playing board games, baking, and spending time with my friends and family! <3 I also love listening to music; my favorite artists are dodie, Melanie Martinez, and Ariana Grande :)
I love anime, especially Sailor Moon! (I have a longer list of animes I like in my bio, though <3) I also love Studio Ghibli movies, my favorites are Spirited Away and Howl's Moving Castle <3 I'm a big Legend of Zelda and Animal Crossing fan, and have recently gotten more into Genshin Impact! (Hu Tao is best girl haha <3)
9. What would you consider your greatest accomplishment here on PMC? In real life?
9. I think my biggest accomplishment on PMC would be developing my own solid style for shading and colors! I tend to really worry about originality and whether or not my style looks too close to somebody else's, but it feels really good to have found a style that feels comfortable to me and is (hopefully) pretty recognizable haha! <3
I think my greatest accomplishment in real life was getting accepted into college to become a chemistry major!
10. What advice would you give to a new PMC member?
10. Ik it's generic advice, but first of all, please don't get overly focused on statistics and subs! Making skins is just like every other form of art-- your priority needs to be to make content for yourself <3 Also, don't get discouraged if it takes time to find a shading style that's just right for you! Keep experimenting and trying things, and don't stress too much about making every idea completely original. Obv, if you get inspired by somebody you need to give credit, but there's just no way to make content that's totally your own in every way. Inspiration comes from somewhere, whether that's somebody you saw in class that had a super cute outfit, or a pin on Pinterest, or anything <3 While giving credit for inspiration is important, don't let yourself get so bogged down by trying to be "creative" that it sucks all the fun out of skinmaking!
11. What is the story behind your username?
11. My username is actually my irl nickname! My real name is Melanie, so most of my friends and family just call me Mellie for short <3
12. Do you have a current goal for your content?
12. Hmm, I'm not sure tbh. I have a few goals I think-- to keep improving my palettes, to try new concepts like maybe some lightsourcing and improving my ombre techniques, and to participate in more events and contests! I always tend to second guess my skills when it comes to entering contests, so I really want to improve my confidence <3
Another goal of mine is to hopefully reach 2000 subs one of these days! It's a smaller goal bc obviously it's not as important as improvement haha, but it's still something I'd love to see happen eventually! :D

13. Outgoing, optimistic, and bubbly!
