Side Quests v2.0 Minecraft Data PackMust install Resource Pack as well!

This Datapack allows you to go on quests for specific rewards. Quests will be presented on quest boards or available through a /trigger command in chat. Rewards include xp, diamonds, emeralds, gold ingots, and nautilus shells. Starred Rewards include netherite ingots, nether stars, and loot barrels. These rewards are randomized to the quest, so sometimes the quests are super easy and sometimes a quest is too hard for the reward posted. Quests are refreshed after a certain amount of time that is customizable! This runs on game time, so if the game is laggy, it will be longer.

Where to find quest boards

use the command /function side_quest:get_sign to get the Side Quest Sign, in creative mode, simply set down and right click.
you can always access them by typing “/trigger ShowQuest” in chat.

Going on a quest

To know what quests are active, either travel to the location of the sign to look at the boards or type “/trigger ShowQuest” in chat. There is no activation necessary, simply find a quest you like and go after it. Multiple people can be after the same quest at the same time, so be quick! Only one person can get the reward.

If you want the most updated info in the chat, make sure to retype the command. Information in the chat can be whether you found a location you are questing for, how many mobs you’ve hunted, or if a quest has been completed by someone else.

Type of quests

  • Gather: For this quest, you will gather a specific number of a certain item.
  • Find Biome: Simply travel to the specified biome. When you have found the biome, “Quest Biome Found” will appear above your xp bar.
  • Find Mob: Find the specified mob and bring it to spawn (on a lead, or in a bucket)
  • Hunt Mob: Kill a certain number of the specified mob. When this quest is active, if you are near the specified mob, a counter will appear above your xp bar helping you count the number of kills you have.
  • Find Structure: Simply travel to the specified structure. When you have found the biome, “Quest Structure Found” will appear above your xp bar.
  • Wear Item: Find the item shown and wear it on your head when completing the quest.
  • Ride Mob: Ride the mob shown when completing the quest.
  • Challenge: Complete the request set forth on the sign a new feature!

Getting the rewards

When you have completed a quest, come back to the board and right-click on the sign with your quest to get your reward. The reward will be put straight into your inventory (or xp bar) and the chat will notify the rest of the server so that if someone is working on the same quest they can know it has been completed. When quests are completed, they don’t refresh until the timer runs out.

  • Gather: Hold the specified amount of items in your hand and right-click the sign
  • Find Biome: The game logs your status, just right-click the sign
  • Find Mob: With the bucket or lead in hand, right-click the sign
  • Hunt Mob: The game logs your status, just right-click the sign
  • Find Structure: The game logs your status, just right-click the sign
  • Wear Item: Wear the item on your head and right-click the sign
  • Ride Mob: Ride the mob and right-click the sign
  • Challenge: Complete the request and right-click the sign a new feature!

Hello!, excited to use this datapack in my medieval-style vanilla server. Had the datapack installed, resourcepack included, but when i placed down the sign and right-clicked it, i got 3 "???" Quest signs, 3 empty papers, the timer isn't even there...its like its not working.
the menu is working but it doesn't have any content on the inside except the 4 main texts.

oh i am playingg on 1.20.2 version. Is this datapack incompatitable for 1.20.2? or is it something else? also, the /trigger ShowQuest doesn't show, or like, i got "Unkown scoreboard objective "ShowQuest". please help :(

I noticed that the menu only has the option to toggle the following types of quests: Gather, Find, Hunt, Objective, and Challenge, instead of every individual quest type. (ex "Find" can mean Find Mob or Find Biome).

I can't use the Find Biome quests because I am playing on a modded world type with custom biomes (I'm using Terra, which replaces all the vanilla biomes, so vanilla biomes are not present at all, therefore the mod can't find them for the Find Biome quests)

But I still want to use the Find Mob quests.

May you please make every individual quest type toggleable, instead of just the main categories of them?

Thank you so much I really appreciate it!

Do you think it would be possible for the Find Biome quest type to be able to find modded biomes too, instead of just vanilla ones? Like, maybe it could draw from which biome tags are currently present in the world save file, and use those? (I know nothing about how modding and coding and all that works, so if this is a completely ridiculous request then feel free to just ignore it :P It was just a thought I had, so people who do use modded biomes can still enjoy the full features of this really great pack) :D

On that same note, if that WAS possible, it would be super cool to have the Find Mob and Ride Mob quest types to also use modded mobs, maybe from the most popular mods for now? (Naturalist and Mythic Mounts both come to mind) :D (unless it was also possible for the quests to utilize whichever mobs are currently present in the world save file?)

I've played on my world for like 8 days (IRL) with the datapack enabled, and still haven't got a quest.

That's odd, make sure you are in creative mode when placing down the sign, and just rightclick to make the quest start appearing, hope this helps!

You should add a way to craft the sign, as i don't want to cheat, even for that.

Hello! You are not able to place the side quest sign in survival mode, it can only be placed in creative mode. There is no real point to making a recipe for it

Why can you only place it in creative though?

Seems like it might be a secure measure that Mojang added so that Survival Players cant placed down a block that has commands in it's tags, and commands are how I use the signs to function. But that's just my best guess.
