This data pack allows you to upgrade your items in various ways, using a special block – the Upgrading Table!
NOTE: The data pack doesn't work in versions before 20w17a.

What are upgrades

Upgrades are actually very similar to enchantments. You can apply all upgrades to all items. Each upgrade grants your item a different unique ability.

Upgrade Enchanter

In order to upgrade your items you need to enchant your materials, using a special block called the upgrade enchanter. You can make an upgrade enchanter by throwing a lapis block on the top of your enchanting table. The lapis block will disappear and green particles will spawn around the enchanting table.
NOTE: You can still enchant in the enchanting table once you upgraded it, but if you break the enchanting table, you won't get your lapis block back (you also can't move it using pistons). Be sure your upgrade enchanter is where you want it to be.

Enchanting your materials

You can open the normal enchanting GUI by right clicking the upgrade enchanter, but the upgrade enchanter an additional usage.
Most upgrade recipes require an enchanted item. To enchant an item, throw 9 copies of the item on the top of your upgrade enchanter. 9 regular items worth 1 enchanted item.
NOTE: Not all items can be enchanted. You can only enchant upgrade ingredient, which are the following – gold ingot, gold block, iron ingot, iron block, nether wart, nether wart block, prismarine shard, prismarine bricks, apple, redstone, redstone block.
You can make enchanted blocks (prismarine bricks are considered as blocks) using throwing 9 regular blocks or throwing 9 enchanted items.
NOTE: You can make enchanted blocks out of enchanted items, but you cannot transform enchanted blocks into enchanted items or enchanted items into regular items. Don't make enchanted items and blocks unless you need them.

ANOTHER NOTE: Don't place enchanted blocks! Once you break them, they will transform into regular blocks.

AND ANOTHER ONE: Enchanted items are not made for crafting. Any try to craft with them will consider them as regular items. Don't try to make enchanted blocks using 9 enchanted items in the crafting table – you will get a regular block.

Upgrading Table

In order to apply upgrades to your items, you need to use the upgrading table. You can make an upgrading table by throwing a diamond block on the top of your crafting table. The diamond block will disappear and green particles will spawn around the table.
NOTE: You can still craft in the crafting table once you upgraded it, but if you break the crafting table, you won't get your diamond block back (you also can't move it using pistons). Be sure your upgrading table is where you want it to be.

Usage

You can open the normal crafting GUI by right clicking on the upgrading table's side, but the top is now used for other purpose.
First at all, choose the item you want to upgrade, and what upgrade you want to give it (full upgrade list below). Right click with the item on the top of your upgrading table to insert it.
TIP: Right click on the top of your upgrading table when there is an item inside and see what happens!
When the item is inside, throw your upgrade material on the top of your upgrading table (I really need to stop saying this). The material will disappear and your item will be upgraded!
Punch the top of your upgrading table (I know, I know) to make the item dropping itself, so you can pick it up.

Upgrades

There are currently twenty seven (!) different upgrades you can apply to your items (nine upgrades, three levels each). All upgrades are available to all items (although armor upgrades might be useless for most items). Here is the full list.
There are three upgrade categories – weapon upgrades, tool upgrades and armor upgrades. Weapon upgrades increase your melee combat abilities, tool upgrades increase your mining abilities, and armor upgrades increase your survival abilities in combat.

Hi, was just wondering if there is a faster way to actually create the enchanted items, it takes a while to either throw 9 separately (because if you do it too fast it doesn't work) or separate into stacks of 9 and throwing them. Just something along the lines of being to throw either a whole stack or making it so you can throw individual items faster.
Any help is appreciated

You can throw 9 blocks to make an enchanted block, you don't have to do that by throwing 9 enchanted ingots.

I sorta just meant in general for all the enchanted items, but i figured out a way to do it faster so don't worry about it.

Another thing, the Redstone and Apple upgrades only work on stone, i was wondering if you could make it effect andesite diorite and granite? Netherrack might be a bit op, so maybe it wouldn't effect the hunger one.

Anyway whether you add these or not is up to you, personally i do think you should add the effects to the stone variants. Either way, really love your mod.

Added to my todo list. Originally I meant it would be for everything, but it came out that it is not possible so I did it for only stone and dirt (bc I wanted it to do something if the tool is not a pick).

Unfortunately, I don't think so. But I plan to make a vanilla JEI data pack that adds a new recipe book, so I will add those recipes to that recipe book. There is time until I start making that data pack. In the meantime, you can always see my progress on my profile page, under the section "working at".
