Datapack Jam is a monthly event! If you missed or enjoyed this one, then you can participate in Datapack Jam 6 - the dates will be revealed at the end of this jam!

Welcome to the 5th Datapack Jam! #DatapackJam

This time, we’ve been invited to use the new PMC Jams feature to host our datapack jams! For those that don’t know, Datapack Jam is a monthly event where participants are challenged to make a datapack in 7 days surrounding a theme. The theme has been revealed!

If you’re interested, please hit the Join button on this page. It’s pretty much the same as “subscribing” to the jam. You’ll get updates whenever we post cool stuff! (You won’t have to enter if you join. It’s just so you can get updated on the cool stuff happening!)

How does this work?

You have one week to create a datapack, starting on the 23rd of October. A countdown to the end can be seen below this post. Around that time, the theme will be revealed and you can start making your datapacks! Once you’ve finished your datapack, you can enter it into the jam at any point until the deadline. Then, your packs will get rated on certain criteria and the winners will be announced!
How are packs judged/do we get prizes?

Yes! You will get trophies. You get a participation trophy if you enter the jam, and if you are first/second/third, you also get a special trophy. These go directly into your trophy case for all to see! Your packs are judged on 4 criteria - technicality, fun factor, effect, and polished-ness. Results are revealed and trophies are given 7 days after the deadline.
Rules and guidelines

We've got some pretty simple rules to follow, make sure to read and remember these otherwise your content may be disqualified.

Rules — Click to expand
1. Use your work and ideas. Online tools are allowed, but make sure to credit them.
2. Stick to the theme. You can get as creative as possible, but your datapack must be based on the theme.
3. Do not intentionally copy others. Use your ideas, you can do it!
4. Datapack must be made within the time given. Do not use old datapacks.
5. You can work in teams of 3. You can also go solo if you can’t find a friend.
6. Stick to Planet Minecraft’s rules. Any datapack that goes against the PMC rules will be disqualified from this or future events and removed from PMC.
Tips and tricks — Click to expand
- Stay simple. Don't overestimate what you can create in a week. In many cases, simplicity is better than complexity.
- Resource packs are encouraged. They add an extra layer of effect to your pack!
- Work in teams. Teamwork makes the dream work!
- Don't let lack of experience put you off. The jams are meant for everyone regardless of skill level!
- Impress us! Make your content stand out, then more people will come across it and vote :D

  Congratulations to everybody who participated in the Datapack Jam! It was tons of fun to judge everyone's amazing datapacks! Before I announce the winners of this jam, I would like to say that even though this is a competition, it is a friendly one. Please do not be upset if your datapack is not up here, each and every one brought something amazing to the table.
  
  Now, time to reveal our Winners.
  
  1st Place: Shadow Travel by 2mal3!
  
  Shadow Travel is a datapack which allows the player to create portals to an alternate dimension, through the use of complete darkness. When in this dimension, you are able to access other portals that have been created in the overwold, and furthermore, every block in the Shadow Dimension is 16 blocks in the overworld, making getting back home from adventures much easier.
  
  2nd Place: DuskWorld by PiggyPig!
  
  DuskWorld is a datapack which showcases a new dimension, the DuskWorld. It gives a new complex progression inside the new dimension, all leading up to a bossfight. From harvesting souls, to looting structures, this pack is sure to excite.
  
  3rd Place: Wraith by Hexuar!
  
  Wraith adds a new mob and structure to the game. Be careful standing in darkness for too long, for you may attract the attention of a wraith! The wraith is a new mob that spawns behind you in darkness. It has the ability to fly, and will hunt you down in caves. This pack also adds graveyards, which can be found as a custom structure throughout the world. Looting the graveyard will give you a new custom sword.
  
  Amazing work to everybody who played! This jam was our most successful yet, and I can't wait to host more!
