If you just want to spice up vanilla combat without all the extra items, mobs, and dungeons, check out the skills-only standalone module Dynamic Sword Skills!

MOD INFORMATION
This section has moved! All item, block, mob, and skill descriptions, along with everything else (configuration settings, secrets, etc.) have been bundled into a much more presentable and, most importantly, not space-limited PDF.

Get the Official ZSS Manual now! The manual will be updated regularly and stamped with a new date - be sure to check the change log to see if anything has changed in the manual.

RECOMMENDED MODS
The following are mods that provide features I consider complementary and should enhance your experience.
Please keep in mind that I am not responsible for any content in these mods and that I cannot guarantee compatibility.
If you experience issues, try using the latest version or rolling back to a previous version depending on your situation.

Antique Atlas by Hunternif - Keep track of boss dungeons on an old-school rpg map!
Battlegear2 by GotoLink, NerdBoy, et al. - Dual-wielding, shields, awesome.
NOTE: BG2 v1.0.10.0 adds a config option to re-enable item blocking - you MUST enable this for many ZSS items to function correctly if you play with BG2 installed.
Custom Chest Loot by FatherToast - Customize loot in secret room and boss chests, jar drops, etc.
Version Checker by Dynious - Check for the latest ZSS version right from the main menu of Minecraft!
ZSS Official Addon by TheRedMajora - Adds everything from Zelda that didn't make it into the main mod

F.A.Q. - Please read me before asking questions!
Q: I found a BUG!
A:
Great - first please make sure you are using the LATEST version of the mod and check the change log to see if the bug has already been fixed; if not, check if it has already been reported and report it if has not.

Q: Help, your mod crashed my game!
A: Oops! First, READ the mod description carefully, and then answer the following questions:

1. Did you install the correct version of the mod?
2. Did you install the correct version of Forge?
3. Did you install the correct versions of OTHER mods?

If you can answer YES to all three questions, then please kindly post your full crash report inside of [ spoiler ] tags, along with a detailed description of what you were doing when the game crashed. The more information you can give me, the more likely I will be able to fix your problem.

Q: Your mod crashes with Battlegear2!!!
A: No, it doesn't - you forgot to install the latest versions of both mods. Please read the download description and change log carefully.

Q: Why can't I use skills with Tinker's Construct (or other mod) weapons!
A: You can, but you may need to add them to the Weapon Registry. Please see the section on Commands in the ZSS Manual.

Q: Why aren't the villager trades working with Minecraft Comes Alive (MCA) ?
A: In order to do what they do, MCA replaces all vanilla villagers with their own class, but this means that other mods which rely on the vanilla class to do things (such as trade) have a high chance of not working. This is one of those cases.

Q: Will you add [x] sword?
A: No. The swords currently available have a nice progression from weak to strong, and I am not interested in adding another sword that has basically the same stats as one that already exists just for the sake of variety. The Official ZSS Addon, however, adds nearly all of the swords not included in the main mod.

Q: How do I upgrade the Hero's Bow?
A: There are hints in the game - check out the achievements leading up to the upgrade achievement. If you can't figure it out from that, read the Official Manual.

Q: Can you please add { whatever } ?
A:
a. Is {whatever} in a Zelda game? I have already considered it.
b. Is {whatever} NOT in a Zelda game? Then no, I won't add it.

If you answered 'a' and still want to ask, either provide details about HOW and WHY it should be implemented, otherwise I will ignore you.

Q: The transformation masks (e.g. Deku Mask) are supposed to change the player model!!!
A: I know, but it is much more difficult than one would think, not to mention it would likely conflict with every other mod that wants to do something with the player model. At best, I may be able to manage a skin change, but it's not a high priority for me.

Q: Will you ever add more elaborate dungeons?
A: No. I encourage people to use the mod in Adventure Maps, however, where it is quite feasible to replicate not only the form of Zelda dungeons, but also to add the many intricate puzzles and quests that should accompany each dungeon.

Q: But you can just use schematics to add dungeons, will you do that?
A: No. Unless playing an Adventure Map, I prefer the dungeons to be slightly randomized to better fit the randomness of the Minecraft world; schematics cannot be randomized when added without converting them to Java, which can add tens of thousands of lines of code that I would rather not deal with, plus I just do not like working with schematics in general.

Q: What about adding dimensions?
A: Sorry, I do not have any plans at this time to add new dimensions.

Q: BOSSES!!! When will you be adding proper Zelda bosses?!?!?!
A: I'm not sure, but if I had a proper boss model available, it might give me some incentive to start working on one sooner rather than later.

Q: Your textures suck, can you make better ones?
A: Sorry, I'm not an artist. If you can do better, please submit your textures via private message and I will consider replacing the current texture with yours, but only if yours are good ;P

Q: My bombs are not blowing up the secret rooms, what is going on?!?!
A: Congratulations, you have found a secret room that requires a special item to enter! Excavate around the secret room until you find either a pair of Barrier Blocks or some kind of Peg, then use the appropriate item to open it up so you can get that treasure chest!

Q: My question was not answered here, now what?
A: Please download and read the Official ZSS Manual before asking questions about content in the mod.

A bit of a mix-up occurs with the Zelda NPC, as well as the dungeons she leads you to. She says the last pendant's location is "not of this world" - obviously meaning the Nether - but when you go to the Fire Temples (in the Nether) they don't generate with a Pendant of Power chest, they generate with Din's Flame. The actual location of the Pendant of Power is in the Earth Temple (the one in the mountains, but since I haven't played with ZSS in a while I could be wrong about the type of temple it is) and it's guarded by the super-OP Mighty Darknut (the beegboi Darknut, whatever it's called). I think it's kind of unfair that the Pendant of Power - the final Pendant to unlock the Master Sword, the first unbreakable sword you can obtain - is locked behind such a powerful enemy. It's basically impossible to beat it if you don't use explosives of some kind (it is possible, just incredibly difficult). It's a really unnecessary difficulty spike, and needs to be fixed. On the flipside, getting Din's Flame is by far the easiest of the three Sacred Flames. All you have to do is fight beefed up blazes, should be fine since that's what you did for the green Pendant (forgot which one that is). To sum it up, these two temples severely need fixing. They're completely unbalanced for their position in the "story" of defeating Ganondorf.

This is one of my favorite mods of all time, and that's really saying something when you compare most mods to that of the more modern ones, like Thaumaturgy, Botania, ThermalExpansion, and a lot of others. However, even though this mod is only for 1.8.9 (or if you wish to use the addon mod, 1.7.10) it's still a classic. I like how Dynamic Sword Skills is 1.12.2, however the original content was insane. I read through the comments and, although you don't have much time to work on ZeldaSwordSkills, with Corona currently going on, you may have a chance to work on this mod.

If its possible, try to make a fork of the mod for 1.12.2, 1.13.2, 1.14.4, or the 1.15.2 versions. I know you have been spammed with "make a fork/update to the mod its been ages", but I know that the minecraft modding community would love you for it. If you need inspiration for content, here's a couple ideas.

Take a look at the DimensionalDoors mod; you make/find a door and enter a dungeon chock-full of traps, teetering on the edge of the eldritch dimension, Limbo, along with the guardians of the dungeon, the Monoliths, who will teleport you to Limbo in quite literally the blink of an eye. The rewards for entering such a place, however, far exceed that of the dangers. Perhaps adding a similar concept of getting major items, like power gloves, the megaton hammer, etc. in a randomly-generated dimension for dungeons in the mod to add a further feel for the Zelda aspect? The good part of this is that it truly adds a challenge on getting the special items, the bad part being that you have to entirely change the concept of secret rooms and boss chambers.

I have found it to be a major pain to automate the breaking of clay pots; I have no clue if this is intentional or not, but adding compatibility with Autonomous Activators from ThermalExpansion would be very useful for attaining bombs or similar items.

Like what the person below me stated, perhaps adding a zelda-styled inventory would be neat.

Using a mod like Baubles, or other magical or machinery mods, would allow for more zelda objects, such as the Zora/Goron mail, power bracelet, power gloves, etc. to be worn without using inventory space.

Lastly, making a similar concept to that of Twilight Princess, having to do certain tasks to unlock/max out certain upgrades, like finding a certain object, using a certain object on said object, then going to do whatever happened afterwards, would go further to be helpful.

Thank you for your consideration, and I hope this mod gets further updates; It has, and always will be, one of my favorites.

Thanks for the comment!

Fortunately for me, but unforunately for people hoping for an update, my employment situation has been stable, so I don't have any more free time now than before - less, even, as my kids demand more and more of my time.

That said, I do hope to update it someday, it's just a monumental task. I doubt there will be any new content added for quite some time, but I will keep these in mind if that day ever comes.

Bro, you have no clue how big a task is, even I don't. I've only seen glimpses of how much work is put into these kinda mods.

My guess is that it would take around. . .between half to a full year maybe. Could be less. . .could be more, all depends on numerous things such as the amount of code, house situation, etc.
