Idea, Process, Construction

Rather than constructing a massive structure similar to others for the spawn contest, I preferred to build a city, and what better than to have a similar theme to the stunning and colorful colonial style of Bioshock Infinite. Due to this colonial style, the construction would require redundancy in the style of building, such as repeated building levels, thus allowing me to try out a new and quick way to build: tile sets. Basically, I made a bunch of random "tile" pieces that I was able to piece together in order to make the buildings and platforms of the city. These tiles include windows, doors, corner pieces, roofs, wall details, columns, platforms, gears, domes, and many more random pieces. After completing the approximately 500 piece tile set, the pieces were diverse enough to be used in buildings. With MCedit, I just copied the pieces and pasted them into a building. Moreover, I could easily change the types of blocks, include new floors, or change a few details in order to reuse buildings, but still keep the distinct. Overall, I averaged about 10-15 minutes on constructing the smaller buildings, 2-3 hours on the large scale buildings, and 5 hours and the three large platforms, excluding the roughly 25 hours of constructing all the pieces. Also, thanks to voxelsniper, many of the organics shown in the project were completed relatively quick.

Other (interesting) Info
  • The project was built entirely solo
  • Images are a nice 1920 by 1080, perfect for wallpapers
  • Has a nice landscape around the spawn for simple pasting and editing

  • The project to roughly 130 hours of my life in the past three weeks...
  • I about spent twice as long on working in MCedit than regular minecraft

  • ... I'm probably never gonna spend this much time on anything in Minecraft ever again...

Programs and Plug-ins Used
  • Default Minecraft (Duh!)

  • MCedit
  • Voxelsniper

  • Chunky (Image Render)
  • Gimp 2 (Image Editing)
NOTE: Currently, the project is still under construction. All that is left is an interior for the main shop, rails for easy transportation, and minor detail corrections. This is not complete at the moment, but I shall post the completed update the next time I can edit the post.

I DO NOT CARE IF YOU USE THIS ON YOUR OWN SERVER, MAKE A VIDEO, GIVE ME CREDIT, OR WHATEVER. So don't ask me pwease and thank you.

It is beyond me how creations of this magnitude even exist, and I certainly am very interested in knowing the building process (feel free to contact me if you have the time). This is by far one of the best builds I have has the pleasure of downloading and exploring. I also intend on using some structures from this world save for my future server, and I will most certainly give credit where credit is due.
