This is my imagined version of the grand Train Station of Tenochtitlan, capital of the Aztecs. What if the Aztec Empire, and the city of Tenochtitlan was able to naturally progress into the 19th century and access the technology of its transportation and architecture? The Train Station of Tenochtitlan reimagines Aztec architecture with newer technologies and stylistic influences of other grand train stations of North America. I combined the styles of Mesoamerican architecture and Art Deco i.e. "Meso-Deco".
This grand building dedicated to transportation, as the entrance to the city of Tenochtitlan embellishes Aztec iconography. Through its mass of volcanic stone, inspired by the volcanic mountains the surround Lake Texcoco, recreations of famous sculptures of Mesoamerican art are chiseled into both the exterior and interior of the volcanic rock. Giant beams of light make up most of the serpentine Quetzalcoatl columns that rise from the bottom to the top of the building. Native Ahuehuete trees make up the landscaping of its entrance. The interior continues the theme of its beams of light and is adorned with a stained glass dome representing the color of Aztec culture and mythology, its left and right wings also feature stained glass windows.
See if you can spot all the famous Mesoamerican sculptures around the train station!
