It is somewhat uncanny the similarities between those stories and the modern world. Really makes you think.
1984 especially makes you question your place in society and encourages you to stand for yourself. You are who you are, no matter how much others might try and hold you down. Individual autonomy is an important thing.
I highly recommend Brave New World by Aldous Huxley if you haven't read it. It is similar to 1984 in theme but focuses on genetics, what it means to be humans, and why our current social structures are important.
Fair warning, like 1984, it can be a little raw. But if you're ok with that, it is another book that will really get you thinking.
