BWU - An Unstable Self-replicating Modular Machine Minecraft Map

I know, maybe you're asking yourself, "What are its practical uses?"

Actually, there's a lot of them...
First of all, other than doing cool stuff, the BWU togheter to the WDU are both really powerful and pretty much unstoppable weapons of mass distruction for minecraft worlds!
Talking about more constructive applications instead, self-replicating machines are the base of any type of self-building/self-assemblying structure;
the BWU_a itself is very efficient in building a facility composed by a single type of unit.
To have an idea of what I have in mind take a look my self-building underground facility, it works quite well, but the architecture it's based on has some serious drawbacks when the structure becomes too large! (in terms of evolution and in terms of computer lag)

But this will change... The technology contained in the BWU will lay the foundation of a new framework for these type of machines, research must still be done, but if it works I will be able to build machines capable of self-assemblying in any type of structure, and with no practical limits in size and computational capacity (i,e, the PC won't explode if it's too large XD)
Imagine things like an entire city that builds itself from one single block, maybe made always by the same templates, but with a really huge number of them and different every time it's generated, of any size you desire! things like this may be possible in the future thanks to BWU-like machines...

Interesting? See also the World Distruction Unit and the original Universal Modules!

Do you like the connected glass? Easy to see through it! Get the texture pack here

is it possible to change what gets made in the rooms that get replicated?

Of course! Any structure of the same size and name of the one left behind by the machine will suffice :)

Sorry for the delays in my responses, I've been pretty busy lately :(
Anyway, those structures are saved in files in the world folder and loaded via structure blocks, if I remember correctly the files you're looking for should be "x0000_00_hub" and "x0000_00_cat" for the bwu and bwu_a models. Since these machines were made in my old structure format they are all enclosed in a cubic frame of 14 blocks.
So, just build the structure you want repeated in a cubic space of 14x14x14 and save it with one of the names above, then the corresponding bwu should accept it and starting replicating instances of it in the three dimensions.
P.S. Be careful that this project is very old and it was designed in 1.12, it might not work as intended in later versions of the game after the Flattening!

I'm interested in your current procedural city project. This machine is supposed to build it using the assets you get from the contest participants, right? As a concept it sounds awesome.

Strangely enough I've been thinking about something similar in principle, though much less ambitious- a small dungeon that would change its layout every time the player enters it. The only way I could think of was to have some sort of command block randomizer that would pick next room to spawn according to what entities (armor stands) were picked to spawn in the previous room.

Anyway, your machine seems to be much more powerful and more methodical, and I think it's just beyond my brain capacity. But I'm thinking about at least posting some builds for the competition haha

You got it right, the engine will extract build of the participants to create the city, also keep in mind that my machines use almost no command blocks!

Your concept of an ever-changing dungeon is absolutely feasible, in fact, I already created something which is technologically equivalent, take a look at my self building underground facility if you did't already. It's enough to build the dungeon parts instead the current rooms and corridors; it would be also much much easier than Infinity City's system architecture!
