HM Ravens is a data and resource pack that adds ravens to the vanilla game (no optifine required). Ravens can scout an area for you and it is possible to carry them on your arm using a new item, the gauntlet, that you can craft using leather and string.

Usage

Ravens behave essentially like parrots (they are in fact custom textured parrots), and spawn automatically in Swamps, Mangrove swamps and Dark forests. Once tamed (using seeds) you can carry and have them scout the surroundings by using a gauntlet, an item you can craft using lether and strings:

• If you wear a gauntlet in your offhand and right click, one of your tamed ravens nearby will fly on top of it.
• While carrying a raven, by right clicking, getting hurt or jumping you can release it from the gauntlet.
• If you are carrying a raven on your arm and right click while holding either wheat seeds, melon seeds or pitcher pods in your main hand, your raven will fly away to scout the area. You can then recall it after an half in-game day by right clicking with a gauntlet in your offhand. Your raven will then return and bring you a treasure map pointing to a nearby structure (the type of structure depends on the seed given to the raven, but there's a random component as well).

scoreboard players set options.cooldown hm.ravens.temp NUMBER_OF_TICKSChanges the default cooldown for the scouting time. By default, a raven takes 12000 ticks (half in-game day) to scout an area. You can change this to a shorter or longer period of time.

Notes

• You can't carry or call a raven while waiting for another one to return from scouting the area.
• You can tell if you have a raven scouting by placing a gauntlet in your offhand. If there's a small raven icon on top of your exp, a raven is scouting for you.
• Ravens are re-textured gray parrots, therefore you will no longer be able to see or spawn gray parrots in the world.
• Using parrot spawn eggs in swamps, mangrove swamps, or dark forests produces a raven
• you need to be in the overworld and have a reasonably open location in order to send your raven to scout or recall it back.
