don’t go overboard with the shading. crazy complex skins are cool, but we all gotta start somewhere and i do not recommend going for quantity until you can get the quality nailed

good color choices can carry a skin imo

in general i've found that it's good to try to keep a limited palette as it kinda forces you to really think about how you want the skin to be structured.

contrast is also very important as you don't really want things like the skin's hair to be blending with its shirt.

it's also important to think about how you want your skin to be used. if you want it to look good in minecraft then going for a harsh light source may not be a good idea, as it will only look good in very specific minecraft situations. if you want to make a skin for art's sake then go crazy ig?
