Perhaps the phrase 'wash hands of the matter" is not the right phrase to use and I am writing this slightly half-tired and half-annoyed as it is mostly because the only way to get a response out of staff is to throw a book at them.

The idea of Tickets is appealing, trust me, I get that. In execution it's nothing more than a dead end for discussion, period. It should not be the place where every single site issue is handled by the team, rather should be a place for extreme circumstances such as Account Recovery or Critical Bugs. Having people submit the daily "Turn Texture page into Resources" should not be clogging it at all. I personally think it would harm nobody to let those be in the forums which are underused as it is.

I know you're all volunteers and I have been one myself for some events. It's not like I'm saying you guys should reply to everything the moment it comes in, but that a personal greeting is welcome once in a while. Even if you want to tell me to go to Tickets, copy pasting "If you ... please submit ...."

Like, "Hey, that sounds like a wonderful idea, but we'd appreciate your feedback here." which would not upset me. Before I finish this, I want to thank you for listening. Even if you think it hollow, know that I do appreciate that you replied to me the way you did.

Alright, about 6 layers of abstraction back, you are referred to the ticket section so that there is a record of when an issue is handled. The "death" of said community is a little of a non sequitur, the tickets system is meant to be a go to interface for mods and users to work out issues in a way that remains in a static record. Additionally, because they are public, it allows for moderator discussion of any serious issues of special cases in the rules.The idea that we ask you to go to tickets or tell you to read the rules and then wash our hands of the matter is a misconception based on faulty observations. Do not forget that all of the mods are volunteers, so handling issues takes longer than you might want. I just ask you be a bit more patient, we're not trying to agonize you, we're literally only here because we care enough about the site to volunteer what free time we can to fix the issues that members have here.

I'll admit to its convenience of the system, but when you shove every issue, complaint, and recommendation that people make at 2 AM, you drain away what little life there is in a community. No point in posting on the forums any problem you have in the hopes of getting responses from people only when one of you guys come and say "If you have a suggestion, post it here."

Case in point, look at "What do YOU want to see in Minecraft?" which completely kills any and all conversation for discussing any particular point of the game into one spammy thread of people saying stuff. Everything is a one-way street and, for a community fansite, there's not much of that, is there?

You hear, but you do not listen. Just because it's easy does not make it inherently good. Moderators should stand as not only upkeepers of Rules, but also as representatives of a place that people can relate to. They are the example of what people can be if they set their mind to it.

There is no connection on a basic social level. You're no better than Customer Service whose priority is to shove people through the queue even when they need a tiny bit of help. What the hell do you do all day that you can't take a few minutes to provide a more human response than "Read this rule, now go leave me alone?"

I could go into more, but all this is going to do is tick me off as you refer me to the tickets section and disregard any other point I have to make, wiping your hands clean of any mess.

The ticket system is how those problems are handled. The point is to have a static, public, record of user issues, who handled them, and how they were resolved. Handling issues in private messages is very disorganized and causes more problems than you know.
