The war has been raging for a day now, with battles occurring in the four outer districts of Anarchy Island as well as on Illager Island. Anarchy Island was hit by both nuclear strikes and missiles containing the X-20 virus, but the latter was soon eliminated by Supreme Commanding Legionmaster IGEBM. Minister of Defense Marshal GrossDeimosStein requested that the Illager Clan pull out of the war, prompting IGE to inquire why. Arch Illager also got involved in the conversation, and the two suggested to the Marshal that he stage a coup against Emperor Wither Storm II.
Minister of Defense Marshal GrossDeimosStein sat in his office in the Ministry of Defense tower, the words of his enemies playing over and over in his head. "Apparently power changes hands easily." Arch Illager had said. "Oaths can be broken." Supreme Commanding Legionmaster IGEBM had said. "If a person is mentally unfit to lead, they may be removed from power." The moon shone through the open window behind him, illuminating his desk, and the wind blew. GrossDeimosStein thought about all those arguments with his Emperor, of all the times he would make horrible plans that were doomed to fail. He thought of all the times he had to save his leader's skin during the war against the PMCers living on this island they now called home. He thought of how he was much more fit to lead, and imagined what the Great Monster Empire would be able to accomplish under the rule of Emperor GrossDeimosStein. Suddenly, the Marshal slammed his fist on his desk. He turned on his communicator and called several guardsmen up to his office.
It was a relatively quiet night for both parties. Emperor Wither Storm II was relaxing in his office, writing down possible battle plans as he had been doing all night. (It was almost midnight.) The door was then pushed open, breaking the silence. The Marshal barged in, accompanied by several guardsmen and a few other GME soldiers who supported him, including Rylu. "Marshal, what are you doing here?" the Emperor asked, getting up from his chair. "I didn't call you." GrossDeimosStein walked up to the desk. "Your Imperial Majesty, this is a coup." he said. The Emperor paused for a moment, confused. "This is treason!" he shouted, rageful. "This is a conspiracy! You are a traitor!" He starts to step back, holding his hand over the red button, one which could activate an apocalypse. "You need to be treated for schizophrenia." GrossDeimosStein says calmly. "Gentlemen guardsmen, take him away and place him in a special place for madmen." "You are corrupt lunatics!" Wither shouted as the guards approached him. He quickly lowered his hand, and a literal second separated the world from an apocalypse. However, when he pushed the button down, nothing happened. IGE, who was watching it from a hidden camera placed in the office, froze, both fearful and confused. Rylu chuckled and stepped out from behind the Marshal. "You can hit the button all you want, but I disabled it a while back." she said, grinning as she held a few circuits in her hand. The guards seized the Emperor and dragged him out of the room with excessive force as he shouted all sorts of profanity, mostly directed at the traitorous Marshal. IGE cheered and spun around in his chair across the floor of his bunker. "Now the question is, what will the Marshal do?" he asked himself.
Marshal GrossDeimosStein made an official announcement, with the throne of the Great Monster Empire behind him, ordering the Armed Forces to cease hostilities and asking if all parties involved in the war could sit down and negotiate. He also announced that he was taking over functions as the head of state and declared himself a military dictator. IGE watched it all on the news. "The war's over!" he said excitedly. "Now all we have to do is properly negotiate..." The Supreme Commanding Legionmaster shut down his computers and closed up shop before teleporting back to the Chaos Center, appearing next to Anarchist Si. "Hey." he said. "Hey." Si responded. He was standing around the holo-table, along with Supreme Commanding Legionmaster Cloud, King Elightin Elytra, and Field Marshall Rob. A miniature hologram of Arch Illager stood on the table. Storm had showed them the news. "So, are we having peace talks?" IGE asked. "I guess." Cloud answered. "We must've gotten through to him." Illager said. "Clearly." IGE responded. "Hopefully this'll be the end of the war." Little did they know that the battle was far from over...
In Castle Großmonsterstein, the new ruler of the Great Monster Empire was assisted by Rylu in moving his stuff from the Ministry of Defense tower to the former emperor's office. As he thought about how the peace talks were a ruse and he didn't plan to negotiate at all, GrossDeimosStein began to feel a sharp pain in his stomach. He fell to his knees in front of the desk and started to vomit excessively. Rylu panicked and ran out, dropping a box in the process. The Wither Storm-supporting royalists had poisoned the Marshal. In the following hours, he was moved to the hospital to be treated, and with the former emperor locked up in the dungeon, a power vacuum had developed. The GME descended into a civil war, with the royalists, conservatives, and militarists on one side, fighting to keep the war going and bring Wither Storm back to power, while Marshal GrossDeimosStein's supporters defended his rule.
Two royalist prison guards freed Wither from his cell, and he made his way up to the courtyard of the castle, where he gathered his followers. Together, they fought their way through the castle back to the throne room, and the rule of Emperor Wither Storm II was restored. Unfortunately for him, retaking his throne wasn't so easy. The Marshal, now recovered, gathered his own followers in the courtyard. Armed with machine guns, they prepared to dethrone the Emperor once again. However, as GrossDeimosStein inspected his troops, he noticed the fear in their eyes and on their faces. "Are you scared?" he asked. One of them nervously nodded. "Do not be afraid, my warriors. If we are successful in our mission, I shall rule, and the Emperor shall be locked up forever!" They cheered, and raised their guns in the air, ready to storm the halls of the castle. Then, one of them spotted the Emperor's supporters arriving in the courtyard. At the same time, a heavily-armored tank drove onto the scene. "Fight!" the Marshal ordered. His men opened fire, as did the Emperor's.
During the battle, GrossDeimosStein noticed that many of his rebels had begun to defect back to the side of the Emperor. Soon, only Rylu and a few others remained beside him. The tank hatch opened up, and out came Emperor Wither Storm, who, without fear for his life, charged towards the Marshal, clutching a handgun. The Marshal's few remaining followers came forth to block the incoming attacker, aiming their guns, ready and willing to shoot their former leader. "Soldiers, do you recognize me?" the Emperor asked rhetorically. "If any of you want to kill your emperor, then here I am." "Fire!" the Marshal ordered. Nothing happened. All his soldiers, including a visibly reluctant Rylu, lowered their weapons. "Long live the Emperor!" they began to shout. "One Emperor! One Empire! One law!" It was this sight that caused Marshal GrossDeimosStein to finally give in, throwing himself to the feet of Emperor Wither Storm. "Have mercy on me!" he groveled. "Forgive me!" "I forgive you, Marshal." the Emperor said.
News reports emerged of the coup, and all of high command was crowding around Storm's computer watching it, forgetting that there were other screens in the room. "Well, I guess we're not done yet." Si sighed. "I'm gonna get a snack. Who wants popcorn?" Cloud and Elightin followed him into the food storage room to get some. Rob quietly went over to the holo-table to look at a map, and Illager put his hologram on pause to see what the GME forces camping near the coast were doing. IGE paced back and forth. "You seem bothered, IGE." a figure said in the doorway. "How did you get into the HQ?" IGE asked, both surprised and panicked. "This is a classified area, so I'm afraid you'll have to go." "My name is Noi, and how I got here is none of your concern." the half-wolf said. "Don't worry, though. I'm on your side." "How do I know you're telling the truth?" the suspicious Supreme Commanding Legionmaster asked. "You just do." Noi answered. "We have lie detectors." IGE added. "I'm not lying, though I do have a message." the guest responded. "A blood moon is about to rise and the Blood Ultima will be revealed to all, and with that, a new minor empire will be revealed." "I've heard of the Blood Ultima." IGE said. "Is this new empire going to wage war against the Legion, Cholas, Illagers, or GME?" "All of them, though I'm guessing Rose has already found you." Noi said.
"Wait, what?" IGE responded, the fear visible in his voice. "That empire is going to attack us? But why?" "To show them what they can do." the half-wolf answered. "They're called the Mystical Forest Empire." IGE began to reach for his plasma rifle. "That's a stupid reason to attack us." he said. "We outnumber them, and do you really want to start a three-way war? Think about it: the GME intends to attack us, as do you, but you also intend to attack the GME. This is gonna be one big mess." Noi saw IGE reaching for his firearm and backed away. "An amazing big mess!" he cheered. "If Rose likes it, then I do too!" "You're tempting me to shoot you right here, right now, but I won't." the Supreme Commanding Legionmaster said. "Instead, I want you to bring this message back to your leader: if you threaten the Legion, Cholas, or Illagers, we will take action. We have weapons you can never dream of, ones that will actually cause massive damage. Watch your back, Supreme Commanding Legionmaster IGEBM of the Chaos Legion." "Very well, though she won't stop the war." Noi said. "We have the most magical people and weapons!" "Magic doesn't always win." IGE warned. "We will see..." Noi said as he walked out. "Think I handled that well?" IGE asked Rob. "Yep." Rob said, giving his ally a thumbs-up as he studied the map. Si and the others returned a few moments later, and IGE filled them in on what Noi said.
Meanwhile, in Castle Großmonsterstein, the GME were getting themselves back on track. Their forces battling on enemy islands were ordered to resume their assault, and the nukes were readied once again, should more need to be launched. Marshal GrossDeimosStein caught up with Emperor Wither Storm as they walked through the halls of the castle. "Your Imperial Majesty, I bring good news!" he said. "Professor Verwelkterstein has reported to me from the underground labs. The weather machines are ready! Shall I give him permission to begin setting them up?" "Perfect." the Emperor said with a grin. "Tell him he has my full permission." The Marshal nodded and hurried down the hallway towards the doorway leading into the Ministry of Defense tower. The Emperor stopped and turned left, opening the door to his throne room, where he was greeted by the sight of Rose, the Blood Ultima, sitting on his throne. "Hello, Wither!" she said cheerily. "I am the Blood Ultima, and a new empire is going to war with all of you!" "What kind of new empire is this?" Wither inquired, curious. "The Mystical Forest Empire." Rose responded. "Mystical Forest Empire..." the Emperor repeated to himself. "Beautiful name. And what is the purpose of this empire?" "To start a three-way war!" Rose answered. "This will be fun!" "Could you tell me more about this empire?" the Emperor asked. "We have the most magical of people and weapons!" the Blood Ultima said. Her tail wagged, showing her excitement at going to war. "Listen, maybe we can come to an agreement with this empire and arrange a fun apocalypse together." Wither suggested. "Okay, that would be fun!" Rose's tail wagged faster. "This means the Mystical Forest Empire and Great Monster Empire can be allies?" the GME Emperor asked. "We have something in common: we both seem to love destruction." "Then we are allies." Rose agreed. She got up off of the throne and shook hands with Wither.

You can see this for yourself in the comments of chapter 1, but the Marshal told me some additional information about the coup in two comments on that blog:
"GrossDeimosStein's coup was a gamble from the very beginning. The Marshal staged this palace coup in order to become the new ruler himself. The Marshal pursued his own personal interests. This coup in the GME was not supported by the majority. Most of the regular army remained loyal to the monarchy; in society, the coup was received with hostility because to overthrow the legitimate ruler of a state that is at war is a national betrayal. The coup was not supported by most of the Empire and this gave the emperor's supporters an advantage.
The Marshal had no chance to resist the Emperor."
"The coup was the culmination of an internal conflict between the Marshal and the Emperor. The reason for this conflict was that the Marshal wanted more political power for himself personally, but the Emperor opposed this. Initially, the Marshal did not plan to overthrow the Emperor, he simply wanted to demand additional power for himself, but then the Marshal became more arrogant and believed in his impunity, and therefore, by staging a coup, he overthrew the Emperor and proclaimed himself a Military Dictator.
Such radicalism was not liked by many in the Empire because GME was a conservative country where the monarchy had become commonplace. The Marshall’s actions turned many against him, since many perceived the coup as an attempt to destroy the usual way of life and an attack on traditions. And the most important thing in all this was that Marshal was not supported by most of the Armed Forces and the State Security Service; in the end, Marshal was defeated"

Additional Coup Information
You can see this for yourself in the comments of chapter 1, but the Marshal told me some additional information about the coup in two comments on that blog:
"GrossDeimosStein's coup was a gamble from the very beginning. The Marshal staged this palace coup in order to become the new ruler himself. The Marshal pursued his own personal interests. This coup in the GME was not supported by the majority. Most of the regular army remained loyal to the monarchy; in society, the coup was received with hostility because to overthrow the legitimate ruler of a state that is at war is a national betrayal. The coup was not supported by most of the Empire and this gave the emperor's supporters an advantage.
The Marshal had no chance to resist the Emperor."
"The coup was the culmination of an internal conflict between the Marshal and the Emperor. The reason for this conflict was that the Marshal wanted more political power for himself personally, but the Emperor opposed this. Initially, the Marshal did not plan to overthrow the Emperor, he simply wanted to demand additional power for himself, but then the Marshal became more arrogant and believed in his impunity, and therefore, by staging a coup, he overthrew the Emperor and proclaimed himself a Military Dictator.
Such radicalism was not liked by many in the Empire because GME was a conservative country where the monarchy had become commonplace. The Marshall’s actions turned many against him, since many perceived the coup as an attempt to destroy the usual way of life and an attack on traditions. And the most important thing in all this was that Marshal was not supported by most of the Armed Forces and the State Security Service; in the end, Marshal was defeated"

This story is not in any way meant to paint any groups in a bad light. While I will admit that it's hard to shake my "Legion equals good guys, GME equals bad guys" mentality while writing this series, I try my best.
