The Hermit is a character who appears on the 8th day of me, LegendarySi, and Stormy’s stay on Shiver Island. He’s an elderly man, appearing to be in his mid-to-late 60s, clad in tattered purple clothes and carrying a wooden crook to stabilize himself. He lives in a hut in the woods that he built himself, and hasn’t seen another PMCer in 30 years.

Fun Fact: My inspiration for this character was EccentricEremite, and I was at one point going to make it Eremite, but the Hermit does disappear at the end of day 8, and I haven’t decided whether he’ll get killed off or not. Due to my lore rule about character deaths, which has always been that they can only be killed off if they leave the site permanently, it couldn’t have been him.

The Hell-o-Lantern appears on day 17 of the series, where it is brought to life by evil spirits. It has 5 growth stages, throughout which it progressively gets bigger and stronger. Stage 1 is a simple jack-o-lantern with glowing orange eyes (and mouth) and four green roots that it uses to move around, standing at 1 foot and 2 inches. Stage 2 sees the souls it has gathered strengthening its roots, allowing it to stand at 3 feet, 4 inches. Those roots have merged into 2 thick ones by stage 3, with small tendril-like ones growing out of them. Six new roots have grown out of its sides, and it can now spew toxic pumpkin guts while standing at 4' 1". It then goes through a small growth spurt while entering stage 4, with clothes black and gold robes being formed around its now-humanoid body. Its root-arms now end in three tendrils, which can extend into claws and be used as flails and whips. Finally, it grows more as it enters the fifth stage, with four of its core souls now being housed in the spider leg-like roots that have grown out of its back.* Said appendages are also now lifting the Hell-o-Lantern off of the ground, allowing it to stand at 10 and 3/4 feet tall. Its arm tendrils have grown a little more, with two roots coming out of each middle finger. They tunnel underground and sprout into more pumpkins, which do not grow like the creature, but which can breathe fiery projectiles.

Fun Fact: The Hell-o-Lantern was originally a skin I made for a palette contest called Houses of Halloween, hosted by LogMaiden (who disappeared from this site at the beginning of the year). I gave it a short story in the description, and have been meaning to include it in my lore for a while now, so I'm glad I can finally write about this guy more since he's also my favorite skin I've made so far.
