Character Idea that I'm sure has been done before:
This probably works best in a show or series, but character that we grow familiar with and care for, with some event or mishap occuring and causing this character to become a quite literally different person. Same body, skin, and voice, but different person that the audience has to learn to appreciate or hate. This change won't be reversible. It's pretty much two different characters, but the audience and other characters must adapt to the shift from one to the other, and that the previous one is pretty much dead for them and unretrievable, possibly also leaning into a identity-crisis for this character post-shift.

Edit:
Pretty much Ice King from Adventure Time, but instead we know Simon Petriekov from the beginning and have to watch the change, whether instant or gradual.
