Happy ALMOST Spooptober, everyone!
There are a lot of "tober" prompt lists, and we didn't want anyone to miss the first day themes! So, we've included Day 1 themes with links to each corresponding tober event. Whether you skin, draw, build or write, there's a tober prompt for each! Let's spread the tober cheer!



What is Skintober?
Skintober is an event in October that Fawne came up with in 2017 to help improve their skin making. Participants are tasked with creating a Halloween themed skin each day corresponding to a calendar, similar to Inktober! Since then, members from around the site have created their own Skintober prompt lists, and remains a tradition in the skinning community.

There have been several spin off's of Skintober including Storytober and Drawtober. They're also included in this list!

Every single time I actually get around to checking the community's recent activity out, I feel shocked to see that the site feels more and more like a cesspool of wallposts than it does a content-based site. It genuinely stuns me, that the site feels this wall post-centered sometimes. I fully understand why the wall posts are appealing, but at the same time, I long for the days where wall posts weren't there and content felt at the centre of everything. The amount of "xd random" material on here gets staggering sometimes, and while I understand that my dismay with such is also me growing older, it does sometime feel like it really waters down the "creative community" aspect of the site. I am not going to claim wall posts don't bring some qualities with them, they definitely do; but sometimes it just feels like it really has watered down certain aspects of what it felt like set the community apart from other social media.

Normalise not stressing out about being a perfectionist with your art when it's causing you stress trying to get lineart and cell shading absolutely impeccable and just going back to doing what you love... sketchin cow ladies.

After over 7 years, I finally wrote a PMC introduction. I put quite a bit of effort into this so I hope you'll enjoy it ^^

Not something I see often, but I see it often enough to touch upon this:

You do deserve your subscriber count or the amount of diamonds and attention you get on your submissions: It's the choice of the audience what they want to reward and since their subscription or diamond count isn't a limited amount, you don't need to claim that you don't deserve said support. People support you for a reason, even if it can be difficult to give oneself that credit.

We added a PMCSkin3D Lite Edition today for users that only want or need the basic tools while making skins.

As skin creators become more comfortable or seek to push their craft, they can move to the Advanced Edition which is the full featured editor.

We hope this helps introduce even more artists to skin making and our PMCSkin3D editor.

I usually hate wall posts like these, that encourage people to subscribe to someone else somewhat baselessly, but I really enjoy the idea behind them, and I want to do one of my own, mixed in with hopefully some appealing arguments for following said skinner, instead of just asking you to follow them. Here goes:

habearry

Habearry is a skinner, who experiments with colours plenty, sometimes to the extend of going overboard with it. Their shading would be mixture of what I call a classic teen skin style with a more gradient (colour rich approach). This provides for an interesting style, that I cannot wait to see how develops. Curiously perhaps their most interesting stuff is posted in wall posts (and perhaps on their skindex idk) so keep an eye out for that.

niceboat_

Boaty is a skinner of many styles, which gives you a large variety of content to look at. I'd like to point out Boaty's keen eye for designs. For this reason, stay keen on Boaty's work and let them know which styles you like, and what you'd like to see from them, as they can deliver very well on feedback!

kodayne

Reluctantly including kitt-chan here: Reluctantly due to the fact that Kitt is not really that underrated. Kitt chan is another somewhat 'gradient' skinner who provides great quality content in a variety of styles, and I highly recommend checking it out. Kitt-chan is already very profecient with colours and shading.

mirabilia

Eloise I know has a following on skindex, and I do not know the differences between what is posted there and here. I will say, that Eloise has a few tricks up her sleeve. Eloise is a good example of a primarily girl teen skin creator who has shown capability of trying more abstract concepts; and this I think can make for quite an interesting ride if you follow Eloise. As a form of minor critique; it might be beneficial to cut down on contrast and "template"-like shading in some of your skins eloise, as I think that'll speed up your profress significantly. Contrast is good, but it can also get overbearing quickly - sometimes you want some 'negative space' on your skins without heavy contrast (x

WhatToMake

Genuinely, this guy is the entire package: Shading style is a check, colouring is a check and designs are great too, highly recommend checking him out. Doesn't appear to be active lately, but when they are, you're practically guaranteed quality!

Vaedak

Another person who has the entire package, also insanely good mob skins. Do check this one out!

Of course there are many more, and maybe one time I will get around to mentioning them. I am not that good at keeping up with PMC skinners anymore, but here are at least some that are worth giving a look (x Cheers

With the HD skin I've reached 20 skins in 2020; let's look through them and see if any patterns can be noticed.

Early bias towards brown: Half of the first 10 skins all use brown as their primary colour; this can be explained away with the neutral tone providing easy hue shifting. That being said this seems to also be a primarily design driven feature in this case. Curiously, this abundance of brown is seen reduced in the latter half of the 20 skins.

Saturation incresed over time; comparing the final row of 5 to the first one, you will see that the base saturation of the skin change towards a higher saturaiton - this is done on purpose, to add variety to my 2020 skins. Maybe there are other patterns that I don't immediately notice too, let me know. Here is the image (x
