The Rules

Welcome to the central hub of my Writing Extravaganza, Again challenge. Here, you will find the roster for submissions as well as all the individual parts that have been completed thus far. First, I’ll begin by outlining a few important rules:
  1. Each participant is required to submit a short story in prose for each story provided. There is no minimum entry length. Your entry must continue the story started by the people ahead of you in line.
  2. All individual submissions must be linked in a comment on this forum post before your assigned deadline. Please do not include the text of the person before you in your entry.
  3. By entering into this event, you acknowledge and accept the responsibility that the schedule requires and you commit to being respectful of your fellow participants’ writing skills and their time.
The Challenge

There is no one single challenge for this event. Each person received their own prompt to begin the story. The prompts are listed below.

The Schedule

Every part of the story will be due one either the 1st or the 15th of the month. The due date for the chapter you are working on is 15 September, 2021. The order is the same as the one in the participant list—that means that when you switch stories, you will continue the story of the person beneath you in the list. I will update the writer list so that there is less confusion with this system. If you have any questions, do not hesitate to contact me.

The Notes

I want to address two questions that have come up: if you can give pointers to the following writers about how you want the story to go, and if you can reveal information about your prompt in writer's notes. The answer to the former is yes, and the answer to the latter is that it depends. You are allowed to give whatever pointers you want, but keep in mind that it is also fun to see how far away the other writers may take your story from the prompt and what you originally had in mind. Regarding the prompt itself, please message me privately before you reveal any information about your prompt.

Let me know if you would like my in-depth feedback of your work and I will PM my thoughts to you. However, keep in mind that my writing is not perfect and I critique from my perspective as a reader and writer.

Entries will not be opened during the duration of this challenge. If you missed the entry for this challenge and would like to participate in a future one, let me know and I’ll be sure to contact you when the next one happens.

Good luck writers!

Tips
  1. Violence is overrated. If you can write a successful story without needing killing or violence-heavy action scenes, I find that much better than a story that relies too hard on action and fighting.
  2. Read some other peoples’ writing (on and off this site) to get inspired! My own writing style was heavily influenced by my friend, a published author.
  3. Think about pacing. Stories that go too fast can seem like a teenage boy’s dream action movie, while stories that go too slow are often boring. Learn from writers you like.
  4. You have your own writing style! Don’t think that copying me will improve your chances of winning, because it probably won’t.
  5. Proofread, proofread, proofread.
