Hello Asendra, I am commenting with a question. On your map "Abyss" Headquarters Basement there is no download, and I respect that because you worked hard on it. Is there any way though that I could download the map, I would be willing to pay money for it.

That's a fair point, although often with very large builds in a short period of time means quality suffers. I would suggest that a limited amount of time would also limit you to an amount of space. While you're right about the fact that that means that some people can do larger builds than others, in my opinion it doesn't matter much as I'll take a quality build over a larger but worse looking build any day of the week. and knowing where to stop is a challenge in and of itself, facing deadlines and knowing your limits can present a challenge for even the most experienced builders. The main problem I have with starter maps isn't limited space as I also think that it offers a challenge, my gripe with starter maps is that they do not offer full creativity as was my original point. If a starter map is literally a 16x16 chunk area and a theme for the contest, in my opinion that's great, but if you have a starter map that's an island or some other piece of terraforming it limits the potential of what someone could do with the theme. Say the starter map is 2 mountains, every single person using the starter map will have those same two mountains in their creation, and in my opinion the best thing about these contests is the creativity and the way different people can explore different themes while posing an interesting challenge, and in my opinion a preset starter map that's forced on the people participating can stifle creativity too much. The one starter map that was pretty good was the snowball one, as it presented an interesting challenge to be creative using that particular shape and object, and I would like to see more of those, but I'm tired of the generic island and theme contest.

Starter maps limited the building space. I'm fine with being able to design that area however I want. It's just that with unlimited space a person building for 5+ hours every single day will pull so far ahead of people with more limited time that it's harder to compete.
If you have that much time on your hands and unlimited space, you can always add more features, introduce additional themes etc.
With a limited space, you tend to hit a wall at some point where you need to either redesign sections or just "finish up" the build with no reasonable gains per hour of time invested.

Would like to argue that having no starter map would lead to more original designs and builds from everyone, not being limited creatively in any way shape or form allows people to come up with more original ideas rather than being stuck to, or suggested a starter map, even if it's not optional you'll still see a lot of the same builds from the people that use the starter map, purely because certain terraforming would favour certain layouts of maps or certain creative ideas. not that I'm against starter maps, I just think that if you want more originality forcing people to create everything from the main subject to the tiny details is the way to go!

I see what you're concerned about. We are intending the entries to focus on a main skyscraper but didn't want to make it a hard limitation in order to allow complimentary skyscrapers / buildings / accents that we can't predict a particular idea might need. I'm hoping the wording helps participants focus on exactly what you mentioned, spending lots of time polishing and working on details their skyscraper.

Contest details: "For this build contest, we'd like you to focus on designing and building a single main skyscraper. You can have more than one, if you think they'll compliment each other but you don't need to create a city block or entire skyline. Instead of dividing your time, focus that energy on creating a unique well thought out skyscraper that is detailed and complete."

I think it's more of a problem of having infinite amounts of space which benefits those who have more time to build on the project.
With limited spaces like the plots or islands of previous contests it didn't favour those people that much. Even after 3 weeks I could still go on and add to the project to make sure it impresses the most.
